Suson, Pardis conquer boulder climbing challenge

CEBU CITY (26 October 2009)Cebu has discovered promising young boulder climbers who showed they have the skills and wits to excel in extreme sports during the 1st BTC Indoor Boulder Climbing Challenge over the weekend.

Jan Joseph Suson of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) and William Pardis of Banilad recorded awesome feat as they ruled the 12-under grade school and 20-under junior mens categories, respectively.

Eva Dyne Endico of the University of San Carlos (USC) also emerged the best in the 20-under mixed novice category, with young professional Junrey Asignar in the 20-above open class for veteran climbers.

Suson, 12 and in Grade 6, got the gold medal as he solved last Sunday the finals challenge with tap-outs on boulders 1 and 2, on top of a tap out he made on boulder 1 in the first round Saturday.

Pardis, 16 who is on home study, led his 20-under class with a tap-out each on boulders 1 and 2 in round one, and a tap-out on boulder 1 during the finals.

Endico, 19, a fourth year student of University of San Carlos (USC), got the gold as she made tap-outs on boulders 1 and 2 during the first round last.

Asignar also proved he has what it takes to be champion in the open category as he tapped the top of boulders 1 and 2 during the first round.

Kalyka Antoni Carcel, 12, of PAREF Springdale School took the silver as Paul Suson, 8, of Childhood Learning Foundation got the bronze in the 12-under (grade school) class.

Joshua Suson, 17, of St. Francis of Assisi School (SFAS) also got the silver ate 20-under junior mens, while Jasper Barina, 20, of Lahug, Cebu City took the bronze.

Jude Carlito Go, 13, also of SFAS managed to grab the silver among the crowded 20-under mixed novice, with Carlo Anthony Morales, 16, of PAREF Springdale School taking the bronze.

Also, Ritchie Asignar, 23, of Talamban earned the silver in the open class as the bronze went to Francis Loie Cezar, 24.

The BTC challenge is the second of its Xtreme Sports series that had Center of Gravity of veteran climber Ian Sepulveda handling the technical operations.

Tutoring Club, Colours Digital Foto, Thirsty Juices and Shakes and Dimsum Break made the event possible with their support.
