CEBU CITY (25 October 2009)Six world-renowned Cebu’s Best Lechon were gone in less than 60 minutes after the only Zubuchon stall started selling as the main mall of Banilad Town Centre opened for business today.

In fact, people were already lining up before the regular Sunday Holy Mass at the BTC lobby ended wanting to partake of the “best lechon ever” in the world.

Zubuchon 2Marketman, the alias of the man behind the specially prepared lechon, brought six of his roasted pig to BTC, as he thought would be enough to be sold out by noon.

He started selling his Zubuchon every Sunday on Sept. 6 for the Sunday Market of CHAINS, a BTC tenant.

The photo below right was taken on Sept. 13, just the second Sunday of selling at BTC in a space across CHAINS.

Demand for his lechon grew by word of mouth alone and on Facebook by, among others, entertainer Jude Bacalso.

0913 - 2nd Sunday 002“It’s about its taste and the gastronomic satisfaction you get after a sumptuous meal with Zubuchon,” remarked a customer who bought five kilos today.

Zubuchon is cooked from hogs raised with purely organic food and no artificial additives.  When roasting, it is stuffed with herbs and spices, including lemon grass, onions, garlic and some secret organic mix.

No MSG is also used in the preparation, it was learned. And that is guaranteed.

Then yesterday, Oct. 24, Sun*Star Cebu featured Zubuchon on the cover of its Lifestyle section, “The Best Lechon Ever,” that Myra Isabel Magsaysay Sun wrote with photos taken by Allan Defensor.

Zubuchon 3The feature stimulated the cravings of many to have indulge in lechon, even just once for a time or a week. Today’s stocks were almost gone in 60 seconds, figuratively. Some photos are shown in BTC’s Multiply account.

The queue was very long one would think those lining up were about to watch a Michael Jackson concert, noted Joseph Kimseng, the man behind CHAINS and the Sunday Organic Market concept.

Many didn’t get to satisfy their cravings today, however.

Apparently, those still in line was good for at least six more Zubu’chons, according to Cerwin T. Eviota, BTC marketing director, who also missed buying a kilo for family lunch.

Zubuchon 4Marketman promised to make up next Sunday, Nov. 1, when people are expected to eat out with their beloved departed kins on All Saints Day.

Even if the main BTC mall would be closed that day (although the tenants in the north and south arcades will be opened), BTC will grant Marketman through CHAINS a space in front of the main lobby area fronting the parking area.

“Better that you’d line up early that day,” quipped an observer.
